DREW ARTHUR - OWNER/JIU-JITSU/THAI K. BOXING/LAW ENFORCEMENT TACTICS-ARREST & CONTROL FORMER POLICE OFFICER and FORMER U.S. MARINE
Drew and his wife own Lone Star MMA Gym/Relson GRACIE Jiu-Jitsu of Tyler TX. They both welcome you to this GREAT FACILITY. It is also much more than a multi-disciplined Martial Arts Academey. It is an Elite Functional Fitness Training Center, and a Reality Based Self Defense Center. The academy puts good technique first over power in all of its classes. We beleive in Respect, Loyalty, Honor, Discipline, and Good Technique. About Drew: Black Belt in Japanese (Jujitsu), Blue Belt awarded by Relson GRACIE in Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Drew also holds a Black Belt in Kempo, and is a Certified Kru/Instructor of Muay Thai Kick Boxing. Drew continues to teach and train as a student under Relson GRACIE, Phil Cardella Black Belt in Relson GRACIE Jiu-Jitsu and Dee Martin, a Brown Belt in Relson GRACIE Jiu-Jitsu. Drew is a former US Marine Infantryman/Military Policeman, South Florida Police Officer, and he served over 20 years with the US Marshals Service, in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Honolulu, Las Vegas, and Texas. Because of his work in Fugitive Investigations, Witness Protection, and Judicial Security with the U.S. Marshals Service, and because of his advanced background in martial arts Drew was able to attend Elite Military and Law Enforcement hand to hand, arrest and control courses/schools. He has attended the US Army Special Forces “Combatives Instructor Course”, and the US Navy SEALS “Combat Fighting Course”. Drew is also a graduate of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu “G.R.A.P.L.E." Instructor Course, Frank Shamrock’s “Science of Officer Defense and Criminal Submission" Instructor’s Course, and Graduated from the Department of Homeland Security “Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s” Defensive Tactics Instructor Training Program. He also graduated from C.D.T. as a Tactical Master Instructor. He has been a certified as a Shoot-Fighting Instructor and is currently a Licensed Certified Texas Mixed Martial Arts Referee. Drew is a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer under Coopers Clinic, and a SMAC (Specialist in Martial Arts Conditioning), and a SPN (Sports Performance Nutrition Specialist) under the ISSA (International Sports Science Association).Drew is also one of the Certified HaganagH's: F.I.G.H.T.2SURVIVE Instructors in the academy. He was certified by the US Federal Government as certified Physical Security Specialist, Hazmat Specialist, Security Consultant, and an Executive Security Protection Instructor, Federal Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics instructor. Drew is also an Instructor in Krav Maga under Moshe Katz (Israeli Krav International). Drew often says that having a Black belt is only half of the equation. You need to know how to teach based on scientific principals. During his many years in law enforcement, Drew has worked the mean streets of South Florida, Hawaii, and Las Vegas as a fugitive investigator. He spent his last five years in Texas as a Senior Judicial Security Inspector for the US Marshals Service. His primary assignment was to protect the U.S. Federal Judges of East Texas, and the Federal US Court facilities, among other duties. In March 2008, he retired from the US Marshals and continues to work tirelessly to bring the best martial arts instruction available to the East Texas area. Drew is a member of the Native American Law Enforcement Associatiion. DREW’S ADVICE ON FINDING GOOD INSTRUCTION: Drew always advises students to seek out a real instructor who has not only trained in self defense theory, but one such as himself, who has used his skills in actual violent situations. Drew has been involved in three documented empty handed gun take away situations with violent criminals (in the course of his job as a law enforcement officer/ agent). Drew has used his skills in the arrest and control phase of arresting violent fugitives all over our nation, who were not willing participants. HE KNOWS WHAT WORKS AND DOES NOT WORK IN REAL SITUATIONS He advises students to stay away of would-be- instructors who brag to students that they have been involved in numerous fights or altercations. You have to ask yourself why this person has been in so many fights, and is this a good role model. Did this person's work put them into these situations, or is the person one who likes to brag, or not state facts. Finally, a new student needs to find an instructor who is not only a great martial arts sports fighter or self defense practitioner, but also one who has mastered the art of teaching. Just because a person can do martial arts great, does not mean that he/she is a great teacher.. A good teacher must be able to distinguish between realistic unarmed combat training and combative sport training and technique. Having all the knowledge in your head, and not being able to articulate it and disseminate it to a student clearly, in such a way that the student can apply the knowledge, is lost knowledge.

JOHN FALIN-Lone Star MMA Gym, Atlanta GA - JIU JITSU
GERALD MEHARRY - VALE TUDO-MMA Instructor style is Vale Tudo (meaning anything goes). It mixes ground and striking styles to make a well rounded fighter. Gerald loves elbows and knee strikes, fighting in the clinch, punishing leg kicks, and tapping opponents out on the ground. Gerald started training in Kung Fu at the age of nine. At the time, it was the only full contact fighting style in Texas. From there, Gerald trained in Boxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Chin Na, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Always willing to learn new techiques and new drills, Gerald pushes the carido of his fighters. Gerald focuses on making a fighter an individual, with their own style that fits their own body type. In 2002, he started fighting in semi-pro fights winning in weight classes 170#-190#. He has never taken a fight to decison. Gerald cornered many fighters and is comfortable doing everything in the corner from wrapping hands, warm ups, and cut care. After fighting several fighters that he was convinced were using steriods, he decided to finish school rather than start using or get hurt by a fighter that did. Gerald works nights at ETMC Trauma ICU as a Respiratory Therapist. Come train with a great instructor, and challenge yourself.
